'We are very excited to reopen Friday, and we welcome back our customers and staff,' PBKC president Pat Rooney said. 'During the down time, our staff and management worked tirelessly to come up with a solid plan for reopening. That included a deep cleaning of the entire facility and enacting policies and procedures to ensure the most comfortable and safe environment.'

The dog track closed March 14 because of the coronavirus pandemic. PBKC started offering online betting May 1 and reopened its Paddock Club, a stand-alone restaurant, May 13.

Rooney said the track will adhere to guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, such as social distancing and local government recommendations, which currently allows businesses to operate at 50 percent capacity. The track will have a 'clean team' to ensure frequent sanitation and there will be hand sanitizers throughout the facility.

In the grandstand and clubhouse, there will be signs on the floor to indicate where bettors should stand. Self-service machines will be wiped down after every customer.

The reopening of the poker room requires additional restrictions because of the close proximity of the players. There will be six players allowed at every table instead of 10, and players and dealers must remain at the same table.

All players and dealers must sanitize their hands before they sit down at a table, and when they leave. The cards will be discarded at regular intervals, and betting chips will remain at the table.

Derby Lane in St. Petersburg reopened its track Wednesday under similar circumstances, and Orange Park Kennel Club near Jacksonville re-opens Friday.

All dog tracks in Florida must stop live racing Dec. 31 because of a voter amendment in 2018.

'It was disheartening when we had to close, but reopening the track brings a sense of pride because it's not over,' Rooney said.
